The Manager's Office
Some rooms tell their story the moment you walk in. Others keep you guessing.
Tucked just beyond Penningtons is one of the most intriguing spaces in Castle Hotel. Today it's known as The Manager's Office, our intimate private dining room designed for celebrations, milestone dinners and occasions that deserve a little more privacy.
The name, however, hints at a much longer story
Like much of Castle Hotel, this room has quietly evolved over the centuries. Long before it welcomed private dinners, it formed part of the daily rhythm of one of Windsor's oldest inns. More recently it served as the Manager's Office, becoming one of the many spaces that helped keep the hotel running behind the scenes. Rather than erase that history during our recent transformation, we chose to keep its name as a quiet reminder of the building's past.
Yet the story stretches back even further
In the late eighteenth century, when entrepreneur and innkeeper Richard Martin transformed the Castle Inn into one of Windsor's most important coaching inns, he was said to have kept a secret room hidden within the building. Today, that historic space has found a new purpose as our private dining room, creating a remarkable thread between the hotel's past and present.
That philosophy shaped the entire refurbishment
Castle Hotel has stood opposite Windsor Castle since its beginnings as The Mermaid Inn in 1528. Across almost five centuries it has welcomed royalty, travellers and locals alike, earned eight Royal Warrants and continually adapted to each new chapter in Windsor's story. The recent refurbishment follows that same approach: honour the history, while thoughtfully reimagining it for today's guests.
And today?
Today, The Manager's Office offers one of the most distinctive private dining experiences in Windsor.
Whether you're planning a birthday celebration, an anniversary dinner, an intimate wedding breakfast, a family gathering or a business lunch, it's a space designed to bring people together. Served by Penningtons, every occasion is complemented by seasonal British dishes, carefully chosen wines and warm, attentive hospitality, all within surroundings that feel both characterful and contemporary.
The room may have changed its purpose over the centuries, but it has never lost its place at the heart of Castle Hotel.
Now, it's ready for its next chapter
Perhaps that chapter is your next celebration. A gathering with family. A long-overdue reunion with friends. Or simply an evening where remarkable food deserves an equally remarkable setting.
After all, the best stories have always been shared around a table.
