We support local producers and suppliers who live within a reasonable radius of Windsor and Berkshire. By cutting down the food miles, we are contributing to the local and regional economy and taking advantage of local produce at its very best to create amazing tastes and flavours from the local area. Here is an overview of some of the exceptional local producers that we partner with to create our seasonal menus.
At The Castle Hotel, we are passionate about minimising our impact on the planet and sourcing local produce wherever possible to help save our planet. Our farm to fork philosophy not only minimises our carbon footprint and reduces the miles that food and drink has to travel to our hotel, but it also delivers a much better food and drink experience for our guests.
Darvilles of Windsor Tea
Darvilles of Windsor have specialised in tea blending since 1860 and are the oldest family business in Windsor. We have their delicious brews available in our bar and Leaf restaurant, where they can be enjoyed throughout the day or as part of our very special Afternoon Tea experience.
We are in very good company, as Darvilles of Windsor have held a Royal Warrant since 1946 – which means they supply their tea and various goods to the Royal Household in Windsor Castle to this day.
Beechwood Eggs
Located in nearby Thatcham, our eggs are provided by Beechwood Eggs, a family-run farm that supply local businesses throughout Berkshire. They focus on giving their hens the ability to express their natural behaviour – with access to the outdoors from sunrise to sunset. Their fresh produce typically arrives in kitchens within 36 hours of being laid, and consequentially tastes beautiful. Try them on your next cooked breakfast at The Castle Hotel.
100 Acres
British botanical fragrance brand 100 Acres would ‘spend all of their time running naked through a hundred acres of heavenly British countryside’ if they could. Using 100% natural botanical ingredients and made in the British Countryside you can find their heavenly scents in our bathrooms and bedrooms in the form of Body Wash, Shampoo, Hand Wash and Body Lotion. Furthermore a percentage of their sales is donated to Rewilding Britain – helping to ensure the endurance of our beautiful British nature.
Tutts Clump Cider
A family-run business and farm, Tutts Clump Cider hails from nearby Bradfield. Their award-winning cider is made with full juice from real fruit, and they pride themselves on their sustainable way of working – their process will always include collecting unwanted apples locally, with any waste or unsuitable fruit and pomace given to local farmers to feed their pigs. Try a bottle of “The Legend” next time you stop by our Leaf Restaurant or bar.
Windsor and Eton Brewery
A local Brewery in the centre of Windsor with history and community at its heart. You may have seen them delivering around Windsor on a horse and dray, visited them for a brewery tour or attended one of their brilliant live events. You can try a bottle of their full flavoured pilsner lager ‘Republika’ from our drinks menu in Leaf or at our Castle Hotel Bar.
Special and Healthy Eating Food Options
We recognise there is a growing need to provide plant-based and vegetarian options on our menu to help guests stick to a healthier or special lifestyle and lower our impact on the planet. You will find Leaf has various delicious vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for you to dine on.
As an inclusive and caring restaurant we are happy to cater for any special and religious dietary requirements where possible.
Speak to any member of the team if you have a question on any of our alternative dishes.
Aldens of Oxford
In 1792, a young personal assistant (Isaac Alden) accompanied the then Lord Seymour to Christchurch College in Oxford. When Lord Seymour became the 11th Duke of Somerset a year later, Alden stayed in Oxford and opened a butcher’s shop where he lived with his wife and son.
230 years later, the butchers has moved to Eastwyke farm on the outskirts of Oxford and continues to focus on product provenance, flavour and animal welfare. Supplying the likes of the Houses of Parliament, we are proud to have Alden sausages on our menu.
